// A Bird Named Happiness //
There once was a bird
that I pursued.
Only from afar
would it allow a view.
The more I chased
the faster it raced;
This absurd bird
made haste to save face.
“Why do you soar higher
than man can reach?”
A mere taste and glimpse
had caused a grave breach.
The more the bird was sought
the more the bird was not;
ignorance of this blind spot
dominated every thought.
And so the bird -
to my dismay -
went about its day
and flew away.
Only at rest
would the bird come to play.
And when it did,
the gray went away.
Only then did I learn
why the bird tossed and turned.
And before long,
the bird did return.
Into my core,
the bird coalesced;
no longer sough after -
fully expressed.
I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, “Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says, “But doctor… I am Pagliacci.” Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

“She had blue skin, and so did he.
He kept it hid, and so did she.
They searched for blue
Their whole life through,
Then passed right by-
And never knew.”

“What non-sexual act leaves you feeling great about yourself?”
“Everyday waking up and having a ‘good morning’ text waiting for you from your SO.”
“You’re the type of person I throw rocks at when I go to the park.”
